Paul S. Atkins has been sworn in as the 34th Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Nominated by President Donald J. Trump, Chairman Atkins returns to the SEC with a commitment to promoting fair, orderly, and efficient markets. Before rejoining the SEC, Atkins was the Chief Executive of Patomak Global Partners, a firm he founded in 2009. He also served as an Independent Director and Non-Executive Chairman of BATS Global Markets and was a Member of the Congressional Oversight Panel for the Troubled Asset Relief Program. His earlier career includes roles as a Consultant in securities regulation and as a Lawyer in New York and Paris.
A graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Law and Wofford College, Atkins brings extensive experience in financial regulation and corporate law to his new role. On his appointment, Atkins expressed, “As I return to the SEC, I am pleased to join with my fellow Commissioners and the agency’s dedicated professionals to advance its mission to facilitate capital formation; maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets; and protect investors.
