Apple Agrees to $250 Million Settlement Over Delayed iPhone AI Features

Apple has agreed to pay $250 million to settle a proposed class action accusing the company of misleading customers about the availability of Apple Intelligence features. The settlement would apply to U.S. consumers who purchased any iPhone 16 model or the iPhone 15 Pro between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025. The lawsuit alleged that Apple’s marketing created a reasonable expectation that certain AI features would be available when the iPhone 16 launched, even though some capabilities were delayed or rolled out gradually.

Under the proposed settlement, qualifying consumers may receive $25 for each eligible device, with payments potentially increasing to as much as $95 per device depending on claim volume and other factors. The case was brought by Clarkson Law Firm and centered on Apple’s promotion of Apple Intelligence, including a more personalized Siri previewed during the company’s June 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference.

Apple denied wrongdoing. In a statement to The Verge, spokesperson Marni Goldberg said the company “resolved this matter to stay focused on doing what we do best, delivering the most innovative products and services to our users.” The settlement comes after Apple delayed the launch of its more personalized Siri features and pulled an iPhone 16 advertisement showing actor Bella Ramsey using the upgraded assistant.
