The Securities and Exchange Commission has appointed Demetrios (Jim) Logothetis as Chairman of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, along with Mark Calabria, Kyle Hauptman, and Steven Laughton as Board members. George Botic will continue as a Board member and serve as Acting Chairman until Logothetis is sworn in. The PCAOB, created under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, oversees audits of public companies and broker-dealers through firm registration, auditing standards, inspections, and enforcement, under SEC oversight. SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins said, “I am confident that this new Board will usher in a new day at the PCAOB—one of sensible, efficient oversight of auditors.”
Atkins added, “I look forward to working with this Board as it refocuses on the PCAOB’s core statutory mission.” SEC Chief Accountant Kurt Hohl said, “We look forward to working with the new Board in connection with furthering the PCAOB’s central mission of promoting investor protection.”Logothetis, who previously served as an executive at Ernst and Young, will hold the position through 2030. Calabria, Hauptman, and Laughton bring experience from federal financial agencies, legislative service, and long careers in public administration, with terms running through 2027, 2029, and 2026.
