Novo Nordisk and Hims & Hers Health have resolved their patent infringement dispute and entered into a commercial agreement that will allow Novo Nordisk’s branded weight-loss drugs to be distributed through Hims’ digital platform. The settlement follows a brief legal conflict triggered by Hims’ plan to launch a lower-cost, compounded version of Wegovy, which Novo Nordisk challenged as an unauthorized alternative.
The dispute de-escalated after Hims withdrew its off-brand offering amid regulatory pressure from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration regarding compounding practices. Under the terms of the agreement, Hims will begin offering approved oral and injectable forms of Wegovy and Ozempic, aligning its platform with Novo Nordisk’s regulated product portfolio.
Hims has agreed to cease promotion and sale of compounded GLP-1 medications, reducing potential legal exposure tied to exceptions previously used during drug shortages. Novo Nordisk retains the right to reinitiate legal proceedings if terms are not met, preserving enforcement leverage. The arrangement also signals a shift toward compliant distribution channels within the high-demand weight-loss drug market, with immediate market response reflected in a significant rise in Hims’ share price following the announcement.
