Among this year’s awardees is Joe Alexander, who is a Partner at Latham & Watkins, a global law firm with more than 3,000 lawyers. A seasoned lawyer, Alexander has guided clients on transactions with an aggregate consideration exceeding $40 billion in just the past five years. In addition, 30-year veteran Everett Wilson is a Managing Partner at Polsinelli's Miami office and a shareholder in Polsinelli’s Health Care Practice Group. Notably, the M&A teams led by Wilson have been involved in some of the more significant transactions in the Florida health care market, as well as significant upper middle-market transactions throughout the country. Finally, we have Cory Eichhorn, a Partner at Holland & Knight's Miami office, where he is a member of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice. 1. Paul Lutz

Paul Lutz is the Senior Vice President and General Counsel at GardaWorld, the world’s largest privately-owned security services company. In addition to cash services, the company offers physical and specialized security solutions. Furthermore, with their Crisis24 portal, GardaWorld provides the dissemination of verified information related to international security.

Lutz began his career in 1994. Before joining GardaWorld, he was a VP, general counsel, and secretary at U.S. Security Associates, Inc. Before that, he served as an associate at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP. Earlier in his career, he worked with the United States Navy as a surface warfare officer. Lutz graduated from the University of Florida’s Fredric G. Levin College of Law with a JD. He also graduated from the United States Naval Academy with an undergraduate degree in computer science.

 

2. Michael Krawitz
EVP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Conduent

Michael Krawitz is the EVP, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary of Conduent, a company that delivers digital business solutions and services spanning the commercial, government and transportation spectrum. Backed by a global team of approximately 60,000 associates, Conduent leverages cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, automation and advanced analytics to deliver mission-critical solutions. Krawitz joined the company in 2019. In his current role, he is responsible for overseeing Conduent’s global legal department, where he manages corporate governance, ethics, government affairs and philanthropic initiatives.

A seasoned legal executive, Krawitz has more than 20 years of experience serving large-scale multinational companies. He joined Conduent from York Risk Services, where he served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. During his four-year tenure at York, Krawitz oversaw the organization’s legal affairs and drove operational agility, responsiveness, and process improvements across the department. Prior to York, he served as general counsel for companies across several industry sectors, including finance and technology. He has also served on the board for Positive ID Corporation, a leading biological detection and diagnostic solutions firm serving the defense and healthcare markets. Krawitz earned his B.A. in Economics and Government from Cornell and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.

 

3. Jonathan Kaskel
Partner, Dentons

Jonathan Kaskel is a member of Dentons’ Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice and a Partner in the firm’s Miami office. Born and raised in South Florida, Kaskel’s roots run deep in the Miami community. 4. Cristiano Bernarde
Vice President and Regional General Counsel - Latin America and Caribbean, SAP

Cristiano Bernarde is the Vice President and Regional General Counsel in Latin America and the Caribbean for SAP, a major provider of software systems and applications that help some of the largest companies in the world run more efficient businesses. Based in SAP’s regional headquarters in Miami, Bernarde manages legal affairs relating to nearly 4,000 employees spread through 16 offices in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Bernarde joined the company in 2007 as general counsel for Brazil, in which role he introduced new governance standards while encouraging close interaction between legal and business teams, helping the Brazilian unit to become one of the company’s best performing entities. Before joining SAP, he spent five years as legal manager at Siemens Brazil. In addition, he was previously an associate at leading Sao Paolo-based firm Felsberg & Associados. Bernarde graduated from Duke University School of Law with an LLM and from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie with an undergraduate degree in law.

 

5. Camille Riviere
Managing Attorney, Progressive Insurance

Camille Riviere is the Managing Attorney of Progressive Insurance, a company that provides insurance for personal and commercial vehicles and homes. Notably, Progressive Insurance is one of the leading sellers of personal and commercial auto, motorcycle, and boat insurance in the country. James Sharkey began his professional career 32 years ago. Today, he is the Latin America General Counsel at Chubb, the world’s largest publicly traded property and casualty insurance company. With operations in 54 countries and territories, Chubb provides commercial and personal property and casualty insurance, personal accident and supplemental health insurance, reinsurance and life insurance to a diverse group of clients.

Sharkey got his start in 1991 as an associate at Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer. 7. Jasmine Zacharias

James Barrett is a Partner and a senior editor for Baker McKenzie North America Tax Practice Group's Tax News & Developments. He is also the immediate past chair of the Florida Bar Tax Section. Notably, Barrett advises on United States federal income tax planning focusing on outbound and inbound international tax issues. He has extensive experience in tax planning associated with cross-border mergers and acquisitions, structuring offshore operations of and repatriations by US multinationals, advising clients with regard to tax issues arising in the use of partnerships in international transactions, and addressing issues relating to debt and equity investments in the US.

Barrett also advises on state and local tax issues particularly relating to tax issues concerning the State of Florida. He is recognized in Chambers USA for Tax in the Band 1 category, the highest ranking available. On top of that, Barrett is the co-founder and chairman of the board of directors of CasaBlanca Academy. He is also a member of the External Advisory Board for the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences at Duke University. 9. Waqas Durrani

Fyodorova joined the company in 2019 as associate general counsel. Previously, she was a corporate counsel at Steiner Leisure Limited. Fyodorova earned a JD from the University of Miami School of Law and an undergraduate degree in linguistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

 

47. Jonathan Cohen
General Counsel, Shutts & Bowen

Jonathan Cohen, the General Counsel for Shutts & Bowen, is also a Partner in the Miami office, where he serves as a member of the Business Litigation Practice Group. Cohen also serves as an ex officio member of the firm’s Technology Committee. As the firm’s Ceneral counsel, Cohen advises the firm’s management, Executive Committee and lawyers to ensure that the firm operates in compliance with its legal requirements and high ethical standards. Cohen is also the firm’s chief loss prevention and risk management officer and claims counsel. Shutts & Bowen, established in 1910, is a full-service business law firm with approximately 270 lawyers in offices located across Florida.

Cohen has over 30 years of experience. A Martindale-Hubbell AV® rated attorney, he has represented public companies and groups of individuals in securities fraud class actions and other securities fraud litigation. He has also represented major securities firms, financial services institutions, companies and brokers in FINRA arbitration proceedings and in SEC and FINRA enforcement actions. On top of that, he defended a national telecommunications company in a lengthy securities fraud jury trial. Cohen graduated from Wayne State Law School with a JD and from the University of Chicago with an undergraduate degree in American history.

Alyson Holob began her professional career 16 years ago. Today, she is the General Counsel of Subrogation at Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Universal Insurance Holdings, which is one of the leading writers of homeowners insurance in Florida. With a network of over 7,000 independent agents, UPCIC is fully licensed and has commenced its operations in Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia.

Holob got her start in 2007 as an attorney at the Office of the General Counsel for UAIC. Holob graduated from Miami Law with a JD and from George Washington University with an undergraduate degree in geography and environmental studies.

Prior to joining Nikki Beach, Savola was a Partner at The Ferraro Law Firm P.A., one of the top 5 asbestos and mesothelioma law firms in the nation, where he focused on personal injury cases. He was also a Partner in the insurance defense firm of Pyszka, Douberley, Blackmon, Levy and Savola.

Savola has been licensed to practice law for more than 30 years primarily as a litigator. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court, Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, and U.S. Court of Federal Claims. In 2007, he was named on the list of outstanding lawyers by Florida Super Lawyers for having attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Staebler has practiced corporate and business law for over 40 years. His lengthy experience includes representing commercial and investment banks; and private lenders. Prior to providing general legal counsel to eCapital, he served as division counsel and senior transactor for public finance at Citicorp Investment Bank. He also practiced law at Shearman & Sterling and Nexsen Pruet. Staebler is a graduate of Columbia Law School.
