Paul S. Atkins Sworn In as Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman

Paul S. Atkins has been sworn in as the 34th Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Nominated by President Donald J. Trump, Chairman Atkins returns to the SEC with a commitment to promoting fair, orderly, and efficient markets. Before rejoining the SEC, Atkins was the Chief Executive of Patomak Global Partners, a firm he founded in 2009. He also served as an Independent Director and Non-Executive Chairman of BATS Global Markets and was a Member of the Congressional Oversight Panel for the Troubled Asset Relief Program. His earlier career includes roles as a Consultant in securities regulation and as a Lawyer in New York and Paris.

A graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Law and Wofford College, Atkins brings extensive experience in financial regulation and corporate law to his new role. On his appointment, Atkins expressed, “As I return to the SEC, I am pleased to join with my fellow Commissioners and the agency’s dedicated professionals to advance its mission to facilitate capital formation; maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets; and protect investors. Together we will work to ensure that the U.S. is the best and most secure place in the world to invest and do business.”
