Alphabet’s planned $32 billion acquisition of cybersecurity firm Wiz has crossed an important legal threshold, with the U.S. Department of Justice formally concluding its review of the transaction. The early termination notice appeared on the Federal Trade Commission’s website, indicating that federal antitrust officials no longer view the deal as impeded by their investigation. Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport acknowledged the development at a recent industry event, though he noted that the transaction remains under review by regulators in other jurisdictions.
The DOJ’s clearance offers a moment of relief for Google, which continues to face broad antitrust scrutiny in the U.S. and abroad, including ongoing litigation over its search and advertising businesses. For this acquisition, Google has emphasized that combining its resources with Wiz would expand access to multicloud security tools for enterprise clients. With the U.S. review now resolved, the companies will shift their attention to securing approvals from remaining competition authorities before the deal can close.
