European Commission Clears Google and Wiz Deal After Competition Review

The European Commission has given unconditional approval to Google’s proposed acquisition of Wiz, concluding that the transaction raises no competition concerns in the European Economic Area. The Commission said the deal would not harm competition in cloud security or cloud infrastructure markets, where Google competes with major providers such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. Google offers cloud infrastructure and security services through Google Cloud, while Wiz provides a cloud-native application protection platform used by large enterprises to secure applications across multiple cloud environments. The transaction was formally notified in January 2026 and reviewed following a referral accepted in mid-2025.

Following market feedback from customers and competitors, the Commission found that sufficient alternative cloud security providers remain available if customers choose to switch. It also determined that the acquisition would not give Google access to sensitive competitive data from rival cloud providers. The Commission concluded that the deal “would not raise competition concerns on any of the markets examined” and therefore cleared it without conditions. The decision allows the transaction to proceed under EU merger rules after a standard Phase I review.
